gliff

Install & move: do this once

Four steps, about a minute. After this the device just lives on your track like any other.

Step 1

Move the whole folder somewhere permanent

You received one folder with everything inside: gliff.amxd, held.js, fcf-ui.html, add-clip.js, and this guide. They have to stay together. Drag the folder out of Downloads and into somewhere you won't delete. Your Documents folder works fine.

Step 2

Open Ableton, make a MIDI track

Create a MIDI track and load your instrument onto it as usual: piano, synth, whatever you're playing through.

Step 3

Drag gliff.amxd onto the track

Drop it to the left of your instrument. gliff passes your MIDI straight through; it just listens in and shows the chord.

Step 4

Play something

The strip lights up with the chord name and a guitar shape. That's it. You're in.
