FC-2 TURBO v1.0.1
MSDplugins
================================================================

Two distortions in one pedal. One of them is mean.

A two-mode distortion modelled from a factory schematic, where
the clipping diodes sit INSIDE the op-amp's feedback loop - so
they drop the loop gain instead of shearing the tops off your
waveform. Solved as a circuit every single sample, not faked
with a waveshaper curve.

WHAT'S IN THE BOX
-----------------
  FC-2 Turbo.vst3 VST3 plugin
  FC-2 Turbo.exe Standalone application

SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
-------------------
  Windows 10 / 11, 64-bit
A VST3 host, or run the Standalone
macOS is NOT supported in this version

INSTALL
-------
  VST3 Copy "FC-2 Turbo.vst3" to
             C:\Program Files\Common Files\VST3\
then rescan plugins in your DAW.
Standalone Run "FC-2 Turbo.exe" from anywhere.
Pick your audio device under Options first.

CONTROLS
--------
DIST How hard the loop is driven. Sweeps from a light
edge to a fully saturated wall.
TONE Treble tilt after the clipper. Noon is roughly
flat; it goes darker below and brighter above.
LEVEL Output. Unity sits near noon with DIST and TONE
              also at noon.
MODE I or II. These are two different circuits, not
two amounts of the same one - see below.
FOOTSWITCH Click it to bypass. The LED is the bypass lamp:
lit means the pedal is in circuit.

PRESETS Top bar. Pick one from the list to load it, SAVE
names the current sound, DEL removes it. A preset
stores the four voicing controls only - it will
never switch the pedal off or resize your window.
              Files live in
              %APPDATA%\MSDplugins\FC-2 Turbo\Presets
and are plain XML, so you can copy them between
              machines or hand-edit them.

Window size 50% / 75% / 100%, from the top bar or by
              right-clicking the pedal.

MODE I AND MODE II
------------------
Mode I is the straight voice: a mid-forward distortion that
still sounds like your guitar.

Mode II is the turbo voice. It is NOT mode I with the gain
turned up. A different network feeds the clipper and a
different filter follows it, so the midrange is pushed and the
top end is pulled back around it. Measured on the shipping
build, mode II carries 12.9 dB more 1 kHz-against-5 kHz tilt
than mode I. That is the vocal, nasal, cutting quality - and it
is why mode II sits forward in a mix at a level where mode I
would disappear.

Try mode I into an already-driven amp, and mode II in front of
a clean one.

WHERE THIS SOUND LIVES
----------------------
Nineties alternative and grunge rhythm, where the pedal was
part of the sound rather than a boost. Punk and pop-punk, where
mode II's midrange is exactly the cut you want. Stoner and
desert rock. Noise rock and post-hardcore, where mode II at
high DIST goes properly unpleasant on purpose. And any
recording where a guitar has to sit in a busy mix without
having its midrange EQ'd back in afterwards.

It also works well on bass, on drum busses you want ugly, and
on synth leads that need teeth.

HOW IT WAS BUILT
----------------
This is a behavioural model built from the circuit's own
schematic, and every release is measured by a headless test
harness before it ships - 41 behavioural checks on the compiled
plugin, plus 31 self-tests whose only job is to prove the
measurement code can report a failure. A test suite that cannot
fail on purpose has never been shown to work.

Numbers from that harness:

  Linear chain vs the hand-derived
circuit transfer functions within 0.013 dB in the
                                    oversampled region
Mode II extra 1k/5k tilt 12.93 dB measured,
                                    13.17 dB predicted
THD across DIST 0 to 10 -16.7 dB to -11.2 dB,
                                    monotonic
Aliasing on a torture tone, 4x 28.8 dB down
Aliasing on an open G, 4x 70.4 dB down
DC on the output, hot, both modes below 0.001
Bypassed latency unchanged, so your DAW's
                                    compensation stays valid
  Stereo channels bit-identical

The oversampling factor is 4x because it was measured, not
assumed: 8x buys another 9 dB on a deliberately nasty test tone
and nothing at all on an actual guitar note.

WHAT IS NOT CLAIMED: no physical unit was A/B'd against this
plugin. There is no hardware here to compare with. It is voiced
from the schematic and measured against itself, and every
number above comes from the shipping build.
